From the classical styles of Bordeaux and Burgundy, and the cool expressiveness of the Loire, to the exciting boutique stuff coming from the Languedoc-Roussillon - and the underloved wines of Alsace... We'll do a tour of France's diverse wine regions. There'll be good bread, charcuterie and some fab fromage.

2012 11.00 am | | Wine course: WSET Level 1 in Wines (Foundation)
This is an entry level course intended for anyone new to the world of wine. It's open to both starters in the hospitality and retail industries - and to you if you just want to start learning more about what's in your glass.
The course aims to
- give a grounding in the major grape varieties
- cover the essentials of food and wine matching
- demystify the world of wine for beginners
- give a real confidence boost in talking about and serving wine
We'll taste different samples of each grape variety as we talk through them and you'll get excellent quality study materials from WSET, the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.
At the end of the day there'll be a food and wine matching challenge and a simple multiple choice exam.
If you pass (100% of our candidates have done!), you'll get an internationally-recognised qualification.
The course is held in our Cherry Hinton Road branch. It's an informal and relaxed environment, and so is the teaching: rigorous but fun. If you'd like any more info, don't hesitate to contact wine tutor Steve or any member of the team, who will be happy to help.

2012 7.30 pm | | Wine tasting: Tour of AustraliaAustralia has been producing wine for about 200 years and producers are still finding the best sites for particular grape varieties - with some amazing results.
Come and taste some of the boldest, most exciting wines of the new world: from cool climate whites, though to big, bloody Shiraz and a few surprises along the way. There'll be some suitably bonzer nibbles too.

2012 7.30 pm | | Wine tasting: Tour of IberiaThe Iberian peninsula is producing some of the most innovative wines on the market. The Spanish wine industry has developed exponentially since democracy and it's still on an upward spiral. Portugal is really stirring up its export market, too, with stylish reworkings of its classical styles. It's good stuff. So come and taste it with us!
And then, the Brits have a long association with Spain and Portugal's traditional wines - Falstaff knocked back the Sack like nobody's business. We reckon he had something right.
Come for a taste of the old and the new on our Tour of Iberia.
